Mike Kibala

A seasoned sports manager, he ran The JD Tennis Academy in Nairobi, Kenya for 24 years as its Manager.

Part of his management role involved coach recruitment and mentorship; a role that helped open the doors for advanced junior players to be apprentice coaches at the academy. This led to a number of them taking up tennis as a career and are currently highly sort after coaches in Nairobi.

In addition to the management role, he was the Events Organizer, Tournament Director and Assistant Referee of JD Tennis Academy’s Junior and Senior events for over 18 years.

During this period, while working under the tutelage of USPTA Master Professional, Jim Davies (The grandfather of Tennis in Kenya), he would be involved in select coaching sessions where he picked valuable skills as an apprentice coach.

The late Mr Jim Davies (JD), a career coach trained in the USA, was among the highest ranked professional coaches under USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association) worldwide.

Before joining JD Tennis Academy Kenya

Prior to joining the JD Tennis Academy, Mike was instrumental in setting up one of the best tennis programs in the country when he served as a council member of Tennis Kenya, formerly KLTA (Kenya Lawn Tennis Association). At some poing, he also served as Vice Chairman of of Tennis Kenya, formerly KLTA (Kenya Lawn Tennis Association) for a period of two terms of 2 years each.

He was the chairman in charge of Junior development as part of his responsibility. He is credited with helping to get Junior Tennis from the brink of collapse to becoming the main stay of the association.
